1994: DT Swiss
AG was formed through a management buyout from
Vereinigte Drahtwerke AG by Marco Zingg, Maurizio
d’Alberto
and Frank Böckmann.
They still own the company and began with 28 employees manufacturing spokes.
1995:Introduction and integration of our Hügi hub into
the bicycle market. Today’s range of hubs (240s,
340, 440 Freeride, 540, Onyx and Cerit) constitute
approximately 40% of total global sales.
1996: Founding
of DT Swiss
Inc in Grand Junction, USA. Production of spokes
for the US market and headquarters for US sales and
marketing activities. Currently 15 employees work
at the Grand Junction offices.
1999: A new range of
hubs (Onyx hubs) is introduced into the mid range
market. Start of production of nipples in Biel with
an investment of over 5 million Swiss Francs.
2001: Introduction of the new DT Swiss
SSD 210L air shock for Full Suspension Bikes. The
shock impacts the market in a very short time.
2003: Introduction
of the first DT Swiss rims from our new production
facility in Biel. The volume of investment
in the first phase is about 3 million Swiss Francs. DT Swiss
is now the first company in the bicycle industry
to offer their own complete range of components for bicycle
wheels.
2004: Introduction of the first DT Swiss wheels
(RR 1450, XR 1480, XR 1540).
2005: Introduction
of the new HVR 200 air shock with a revolutionary
platform
technology as well as the complete Freeride wheel
FR 2350 featuring the DT Swiss Star Ratchet System.
Opening of the new 5000 square meter production facility for rims and nipples.
Founding of the subsidiary,
DT Swiss (Asia) Ltd in Taiwan, to serves as
an intermediate warehouse for deliveries in Asia.
Currently
there are over 160 employees working for the DT Swiss
Group worldwide.
2006: Purchase of Suspension and Rigid Fork business from Pace Cycles Ltd. With this step, DT Swiss will become a full scale, high end suspension product manufacturer.
2007:Continued introduction of innovative DT Swiss products including RWS, 190 Ceramic hubs, and SSD Carbon shock. Aquisition of Pace frront suspension design and intellectual rights.
2008: Introduction of front suspension line featuring all carbon lower legs and super light weights. Introduction of new 1250 gram carbon MTB and Road wheelsets.
